A Sunday excursion

Down here we are in autumn although the weather has been warm of late. To take advantage of the lack of tourists (New Zealand still hasn't opened up to visitors) I've been out and about and seeing more of the local patch. One such place is the Hunua waterfall east of Auckland in the Hunua ranges, a regional park.

We went out for a look around one fine Sunday. I hadn't been out that way for years. Decades even. They have washing stations when you go into the bush, where you wash your shoes in an attempt to prevent the spread of Kauri dieback disease, a disease that is threatening the native Kauri trees.

There are bush tracks, which we are going back to do at some stage, the longest being around three hours. There are also mountain bike trails.

And of course there were the beautiful Hunua waterfalls. Photos don't do it justice! It was nice and quiet the day we were there, probably because there had been wild weather predicted which really didn't eventuate.  Definitely a place to return to and no doubt a place that will feature in a book at some stage!
